Flyfising for Bonefish, Tarpon & Permit on Abaco

DIY.......

PURCHASE YOUR FISHING LICENSE HERE

There are many areas to go flyfishing on Abaco. Most of you will need a licensed guide, and we have some of the worlds best flyfishing guides. Having said that, you can do it yourself here at our right on the beach at Abaco Beach Rentals, or wade out to one of the flats. There are several flats and much shallow water, especially at low tide. Here you can hunt the elusive grey ghosts. In the photo above you can see Key Lime Beach House in the background. (Mango was not build yet) So, here you can wade and bonefish. This particular fisherman took the kayak to Point of Spit to catch this beautiful fish.

You can also go to the shallows at Cherokee Sound, around the Long Dock. At low tide there are many schools of bonefish. You can go by boat, kayak or by car.

Our home is located directly on the beach but also has canal frontage at the back of the property so, your fishing times are never restricted.

There are two bonefish guides living in our neighbourhood and many that live in Cherokee Sound, just across the bay as well as other areas of the island.

Guided.......

Most guides fish in the Marls which are located on the Western side of Abaco. You are unable to wade in the Marls as the sandy bottom is like quicksand. You will have to hire a guide for fishing there. The fish in the Marls area are smaller than most of the ones that you will encounter in Casuarina Point, but you will catch more fish there. The Casuarina Point/Cherokee Sound bonefish have not had much pressure since the Hurricane Dorian and it is a smaller area. They are a challenge, but much bigger and so much more fun to catch!

The outer cays also have guides that will take you in areas around the individual islands, depending on where the guide is. This is a bit more time consuming with travelling to meet your guide.

If you wish to fish in the Marls (Marsh Harbour), the guides in Casuarina Point will pick you up at your doorstep.

There are also guides that live in Marsh Harbour that you can arrange to meet. (Justin Sands)
